“Les Renards” was built in Vex as previously mentioned in 1929 by Mr Vincent Vouilloz with the help of his nephew Georges Pitteloud. Until 1964 the chalet was primarily used to transhumance family livestock to the summer pasture un Thyon. Used to shelter both shepherds and cows the basement level was built in two sections: the barn and a cellar where the “tomme” cheese was made on site On the ground level a still visible main corridor is giving access on the west side to the kitchen and to two small bedrooms on the east. On the north side you will access a rustic toilet and the ladder giving access to the attic. It is interesting to know that the attic primarily function was to stock hay to be used when shepherds (and stock) were surprised by unexpected snow falls.
In the 60’ies the chalet was raised and the porch was enlarged and roofed. From this period the old farming function of the chalet gradually gave place to recreational and leisure purposes. New interior designs and improvements performed in 1988 by Michel and Laurent Pitteloud and their respective families form Vex and Baie-des-sables (Quebec Canada) gave a new charm and comfort to the chalet while respecting the soul and authenticity of the area.
